"Our house; is still on fire!" Forty thousand ran the marathon, And I've just done the same. I'm standing in the Metro, I'm waiting for that train. So many people around me, I'm feeling I'm caged in. Will these wheels ever start rolling, Will this journey ever begin? Some say we're safe in the underground, But I know we're riding on a Hellbound Train.... On a Hellbound Train. Politicians see the future, Or that is what they say. But the working man in the street, He has to pay their way. Money's tight even if you have a job, And your boss is always right. Some say the tide is turning; Some say there's going to be a fight. Some say were travelling in hand-carts, But I know we're riding on a Hellbound Train..... On a Hellbound Train. To hell with this hell, what the hell; Are you ready to sell, Your soul to this dying, it makes me sick, I can't stand the smell; Shell after shell in this cell, Angels are executed inside us Make room for demons and devil, Pedal and spread the virus Vote for mass murderer superstars, eyes wide open In front of a spinning hypnosis wheel You’re joking heartbroken And chocking, inhaling smoke, dope, And our planet is burning, Presidents trying not lying... and pigs are flying bro…... Earth Mother's on the back foot, She's given all she's got. But we take and we take from the underground, It's never going to STOP! Oil wells, they have run dry And the forest have been lost And the hungry mouths need feeding We're going to pay the cost! Some say that this is our brave new world, But I know we're riding on a Hellbound Train; On a Hellbound Train. Yeah we're all riding together, Oh yeah, yeah, yeah yeah, On a Hellbound Train; On a Hellbound Train. You heard enough? You’ve seen enough? I shut up before they put me in cuffs. Take me to prison, freedom of speech, Went soft like a mouldy peach. Just carry on living while everything's dying, Clap for the freak show and keep lying. Hellbound train, passengers on chains, Without names, numbers hitting the flames and burn... Damn your Hellbound train... Your Hellbound train... Your Hellbound train... Damn your Hellbound train... Your Hellbound train... Your Hellbound train... Your Hellbound train; I hope it will crash during your campaign And your train goes down the drain...........

This house is mourning, No warmth does it hold. Its rooms forsaken, Their secrets untold. I choose to walk here, No memories unfold. On this February morning, I’m broken and cold. It’s strange, how things used to be? So strange, it was just you and me. We’ve changed, from lovers to friends, This February morning, we’re strangers again. How did we get here? Were we so blind? We didn’t look, But we knew where to find; The thread of hope Held by a strand, On this February morning, Was cut by my hand. It’s strange, how things used to be? So strange, it was just you and me. We’ve changed, from lovers to friends, This February morning, we’re strangers again. It’s strange, how things used to be? So strange, it was just you and me. We’ve changed, from lovers to friends, This February morning, we’re strangers again. This February morning, we’re strangers again. This February morning......... Strangers again. Silence! The darkest morning; Snow has fallen through the cold, cold night. Grab a cup of tea, And soon it’s time to be, Out on my way, I look into his room, His eyes wide open, And then Charlie smiles..... Roasting! In Hell’s kitchen; Half way through my day, six more hours to go! Waiters keep a-running, Checks-on keep a-coming, It never ends! There’s a photo on the wall, Eyes of blue, And I see Charlie’s smile. Bitter! In the cold wind; Sleet in my face; I’m on my way back home. Key is in the door, Coat hung in the hall, It’s good to be here! And waiting in the room, His eyes wide open, And then Charlie smiles... As I walk into the room, Eyes of blue and I see Charlie’s smile. I see Charlie’s smile... A desk by the window is empty today, “Claire’s not here Miss”, I heard Charlotte say. The classroom is silent and no one knows why? Mrs Johnson is wiping the tears from her eyes. A door slowly opens, The Headmaster walks in. In his hand is a paper, His expression is grim. “I have some sad news, I’m sorry to say”; “Claire will be missing from school today”. John Preston was yearning for artistic success, He travelled the world but he failed to impress. Rejection, frustration and anger within, Destroyed the creations that were precious to him. He abandoned ambition, For a quieter life. In a Worcestershire village, With his children and wife. But demons of failure haunted his head. He’d fight with the gun, kept under his bed. The cottage was blazing; men broke down the door, The gun and John Preston were laid on the floor. His wife in her nightdress, at the foot of the stairs, His dog and son Stephen were slumped in a chair. And there in the back room, “Asleep” on her bed, An angel lies peaceful, With a hole in her head. “She sat by the window”, I heard Charlotte say, Claire will be missing from school today. Well, I opened my eyes this mornin', I wasn't at home in bed. There were four angels standin' 'round me, I thought I must be dead. Yeah, I opened my eyes this mornin', Thought I must be dead, There were four angels standin' 'round me, And the room was painted red. Won't you have mercy on your wicked son? Take me up to heaven, not hell where I belong, yeah! Well, the sky began to tremble, The rain began to fall. Four angels standin' 'round me, And it weren't no social call. Yeah, the sky began to tremble, The rain began to fall. Fell down on my knees prayin', Lord, But it didn't do no good at all. Won't you have mercy on your wicked son? Take me up to heaven, not hell where I belong, yeah! Lyrics by Robin Trower & Keith Reid Musically arranged by G C Tolley © New Tradition Music - 2021

The wife saw me just the other night, With a lady who was truly fine. When I got home for dinner, Well she started to whine She said “What y’all doin’ with a fox like that, All dress up and truly fine?” I said “She ain’t nothing but a dear old friend Coincidentally Feminine”. Then I met a good old girl, Who used to follow me home from school. Short skirt, high heels and long red hair Blue eyes still looking cool. The wife caught me looking guilty as hell And warned me “one more time” I said “She’s just an old school pal Coincidentally feminine. No she’s just an old school friend, Coincidentally feminine”. Coming home, the bus was full, There was only a seat for me. A lady who was with me had to sit upon my knee. My mother-in-law saw us there And called me “a cheating swine” I said “She is just a workmate, Coincidentally feminine. No, she is just a work mate, Coincidentally feminine”. My wife went out early tonight All dressed up to the nines. Arm in arm with a sweet little cutie, Off for a real good time. I said “Now woman don’t you go getting’ switchin!” She said “Oh don’t repine? Aint no need to get a twitchin’ About a touch of feminine. No, there ain’t no need to get a bitchin’ About a touch of feminine”. Lyrics by R A Jones Musically arranged by G C Tolley © New Tradition Music - 2021

Sugar Cane 03:14
Kisses sweeter than a cherry pie, Softer than the Daintree rain. Love my baby, love my sugar cane. She got a voice as pretty as a Mocking Bird, I love the way she calls my name. Love my baby, love my sugar cane. When the money’s low and the times get hard, You’ll never hear that girl complain. Love my baby, love my sugar cane. When the Blues comes down to break my heart, She’ll hold me close to ease the pain. Love my baby, love my sugar cane. When the Lord above says it’s time to go, You’ll hear me sing this sweet refrain. Love my baby, love my sugar cane. Love my baby, love my sugar cane. Love my baby, love my sugar cane. Love my baby, love my sugar cane. Lyrics by Andrew Crawford Musical arranged by G C Tolley © New Tradition Music - 2021

Well I’ve done no fishin’ for a mighty long time, But I has a disposition to cast out my baited line I ain't eaten good fish, for a mighty long time. My perch pole is long and it don’t hardly bend, All I needs is a good fish to dangle on the end, I ain’t eaten good fish, for a mighty long time. Once had a girl who let me fish in her pool, When her mamma finally caught me, Sent her off to Sunday school, I ain’t eaten good fish, for a mighty long time. Now it seems to me when I gets my tackle out Them fish ponds get all dried up And there’s no fishing hereabouts I ain’t eaten good fish, for a mighty long time. Let me ask you peoples, what’s a poor boy ‘spose to do? When there ain’t no fish a-biting, I get them fish pie blues. I ain’t eaten good fish, for a mighty long time. There ain’t no sweet fishin’ on this poor boys line Lyrics & Music by G C Tolley © New Tradition Music - 2021

When the moon shines on the water, And glints in a crocodile’s eye. Meet the boys at the waterhole, Drinking Bundy and Tennessee Rye. A shout goes out, “Let’s fire ‘em up, Pack your gun and woman inside, We’re heading out on a pig hunt, Sit back and enjoy the ride”. There’s a wild kind of redneck in the forest here….. Oooooh …… North of the river! You better take care. From the south came a city slicker Smart suit and looking just fine, To build a bridge over the water “People let’s move with the times!” So they took him out, Got covered in mud, Along the CREB Track in the rain. He stayed overnight in the village, But he was never went south again. There’s a strange kind of magic in the forest here..... Oooooh …… North of the river. You better beware. So if you travel over the water, Make the crossing at first light, Do all the things that you need to do, Catch the ferry home at night. You better move fast, There’s nothing to see, When the Sun slips out of sight, Wild things walk in the mangroves, When the mozzies begin to bite. There is a strange kind of voodoo in the forest here….. Oooooh….. North of the river, You better say your prayers. Lyrics & Music by G C Tolley © New Tradition Music - 2021

Find the key to my door All the warmth, don’t let it out. Find the song to your rhyme, Give a whisper; give a shout. You’re the person that makes the hours to seconds; Home is where my heart is. At work, watching the clock, I know you’re there, waiting for me; Home is where my heart is. Find the peace in my heart, Leave the world outside the door. Kick my shoes; hang my coat, Drop my bag to the floor. Reach out for the one who welcomes me home; Because home is where my heart is. At work, watching the clock, I know you’re there, waiting for me; Home is where my heart is. In the middle of a busy day, I try to make a get-away From the madness, all around me. And when my day is finally done, And I’m on the homeward run, To the place I want to be; My home; Your home; Is waiting for me... Find the hand to hold my hand, As the embers glow bright. My song is almost sung, As you reach for the light. Contentment in my heart, That’s when I realise; That home is where my heart is. At work, watching the clock, I know you’re there, waiting for me; Home is where my heart is. Lyrics & Music by G C Tolley & E Ewing © New Tradition Music - 2021

about

After the release of the DEAD ROSES album in September 2019, I found myself with a few songs that didn't make the cut for the album because they were not completely finished as demos or were short of key lyrics or arrangements.

However, Dave Draper (my producer) suggested that I work on the material in my songs "odd box" during the winter of 2019-20 and at the start of the New Year we would record one song a month with a view of releasing them as an album or couple of EP's at the end the year.

Things started very well with HELLBOUND TRAIN (Feat. Norbs Blade) in the can and ready for release as a fund-raising single at the end of February and CHARLIE'S SMILE was the second fully produced and mastered track for the new project.

Then of course the World stopped and Covid-19 caused the total shutdown of everything. In fact, apart from brief periods when there were no lockdowns or work/travel restrictions, the project staggered on from one month to another and then finally into 2021. Everyone was thinking, would this project ever be completed?

However, the vaccines saved the day and by September 2021, the project, which had become known as THE ODD BOX was completed and ready for release.

Nevertheless, new variants of Covid-19 emerged and the chances of getting the hard copy version of the album out before the end of 2021 were delayed further by illness, material and personnel shortages in the print and manufacturing industries .

Therefore New Tradition Music decided to release THE ODD BOX as a digital download/streaming product, exclusively on BandCamp from 5th November 2021 with the physical release available in the early part of 2022.

So ladies and gentlemen, girls and boys, here is THE ODD BOX - a mixture of Blues, Country Blues and Acoustic ballads to tickle your fancy.
In fact there is something here for everyone; so please do have a good old rummage around THE ODD BOX.
